Efficient Electric Hot Water for Your Medway Home
Top Notch HVAC Company installs electric water heaters for homeowners throughout Norfolk County and the Metro West area.
Electric units are the right choice for homes without a natural gas line, homes where adding a gas appliance is not practical, or households looking to consolidate to a single utility. Family-owned since 2014 with over 35 years of home systems experience, we size and install every unit correctly.
No guessing on tank capacity, no shortcuts on wiring or circuit requirements. We stay on the job until you have confirmed hot water from every tap before we close out.
Electric water heaters range from standard resistance-tank models to high-efficiency heat-pump units that extract heat from the surrounding air rather than generate it directly with resistance coils. We carry models across the full range. Before we recommend anything, we walk you through a clear comparison of upfront cost versus estimated annual operating cost so the decision makes sense for your specific household and budget, not just on paper.
Standard electric tank water heaters store between 30 and 80 gallons of pre-heated water and work reliably for years with minimal maintenance.
Heat pump water heaters take efficiency further: they use roughly 60% less electricity than a conventional resistance model. Many heat pump units qualify for Mass Save rebates in Massachusetts, which can significantly offset the higher upfront cost. They work best in basements, utility rooms, or garages where there’s adequate airflow and ambient air temperature above 40 degrees in winter.
Signs your current electric water heater is failing: tripped breakers on the dedicated water heater circuit, water that never quite reaches its set temperature, a unit older than 10 years running constant heating cycles, or visible corrosion around the connections or tank fittings.

Standard Electric Tank Water Heaters
Electric tank water heaters keep a ready supply of hot water stored and heated to your set temperature around the clock. They’re a proven, low-maintenance technology with a straightforward installation process.
We install units from leading brands including Rheem, Bradford White, and AO Smith, and we size the tank to match your household’s actual peak demand, not just the number of bedrooms on the spec sheet.
Most installations complete in a single day, and we handle all electrical connections to Massachusetts code including any needed circuit upgrades.
Heat Pump Water Heaters
A heat pump water heater is the most energy-efficient electric option on the market today. It moves heat from the surrounding air into the water rather than generating heat with resistance coils, the same principle a refrigerator uses in reverse.
Current Mass Save incentives put significant rebates on qualifying models, bringing the installed cost much closer to a standard electric tank. Heat pump units need adequate space with airflow, typically 700 to 1,000 cubic feet of surrounding volume.
We assess your installation space and confirm it qualifies before recommending this route.
Electric Water Heater Repair & Replacement
We service all makes and models of electric water heaters throughout Norfolk County and Metro West.
The most common repair calls involve failed upper or lower heating elements, faulty thermostats set above the high-limit, sediment buildup insulating the heating elements, and tripped high-limit reset switches. We carry replacement elements and thermostats on every truck.
If the unit is past 10 years old or the tank itself is leaking, we give you a clear comparison of repair versus replacement costs so you can decide with full information.

January, 2026 Phil has always displayed deep knowledge of HVAC systems, and, in addition, he can explain things in a way that is understandable even to an ordinary homeowner.Posted on Google Michael Baldner5. January, 2026 Top Notch is a life saver - figuratively and literally. I had them come out as a second opinion to another local company that we previously used. The previous company came in and gave a bunch of highly-priced options to "fix" an issue they never even diagnosed. Our gas meter was being replaced unexpectedly, so the other company could not look at anything and instead of coming back later, they guessed on what was wrong based on the system codes that were showing. They basically scared my wife into doing costly repairs, saying the system would break if they didn't fix it. We reached out to Top Notch for that 2nd opinion and they came out right away. The first technician, Vinny, came in very professional and nice, and looked through everything on the system. Nothing stood out that needed repairs and completed a system maintenance and clean up. Vinny checked everything - and upon his review he found that our gas vent pipe (that the previous company installed) had disconnected inside the basement. There was basically carbon monoxide being dumped into our house - who knows for how long. You would think the previous company would have caught this in their diagnoses - but further nailed down that a 2nd opinion was needed. This was extremely dangerous and really thankful that Vinny found this out during his inspection of the system. Goes to show how thorough he was when going through everything. After Vinny left, we still received the system code on our thermostat. We called Top Notch again and they sent someone out right away. This time Aiden came over, who was also very professional and nice. He spent about 2 hours going through everything again and determined that our gas pressure was running high. He adjusted the pressure and went on his way. Top Notch did not charge me for this 2nd visit by their team - which was appreciated. Unfortunately we got the system code on our thermostat once again, and called Top Notch. Once more, they sent someone out right away. This time Sergei arrived and just like the other, was very professional and nice. He went through and saw the gas pressure was still running high and adjusted further. Spent some additional time just checking everything and making sure we were all set. He felt confident that the issue should be set at this point. Since the last visit, we have not had any issues with the system. We really appreciated the effort and time that Top Notch put into the care of our system. And the thoroughness of their inspections really did save us from something that could have been catastrophic with CO2 running into our home. Thank you again Vinny for finding and fixing this. I would not hesitate to use Top Notch on any future work in our house. What we were told were thousands of dollars worth of repairs (or even a new system) that were needed turned out to be a couple hundred dollars worth. We thank Top Notch for everything they did for us.Posted on Google Ravi Uppalapati29. December, 2025 Thank you for all your prompt service. James was amazing, respectful and clear communication.
